READING NEWS
Reading the news in English is a great way to build up your language skills. It’s an enjoyable way to practice, too. Although reading a newspaper in another language can seem daunting at first, it’s actually quite simple once you know what to expect. Here’s how to read a newspaper in English.
The first step is
choosing where you want to get your news. Newspapers have different names
according to when and how often they are published, and what type of news they
report. A tabloid or rag is a newspaper that prints mainly
gossip or sensational material. It usually has a smaller format than a broadsheet (a
newspaper with full-size pages). Other common names for newspapers
include gazette, journal, chronicle and times.

Good evening,
people.
Back with
me, Sandra Liem in Great News. This time we will be
delivering the news of traffic jam which often becomes a major problem for big
cities in Indonesia, including the capital city, Jakarta. On a
typical day, the volume of vehicles is increasing, especially during the
long weekend. The congestion occurs in many parts of Jakarta, and
Kota Kasablanka has it worst.
The
congestion is also followed by heavy rain that flushes the area and
the surroundings starting this afternoon at 4 p.m. which affects
the congestion to get worse. Big rain also falls in the western part of
Jakarta and already causes a flood. It’s flooded to a height of 30 cm and
disrupts road users. It can be dangerous, especially for motorcycle
riders. The police officers are going down to help with the traffic.
And that was
the news for this evening,
Follow the
next update in Great News one hour ahead. I am Sandra Liem, good evening, and
see you.
