 To Whom it may concern,

“Indonesian Idol” is an annual Indonesian televised singing competition that has been airing on RCTI. Part o the Idol franchise, it originated from the British reality program “Pop Idol”. “Indonesian Idol” is a combination of a reality show and a talent search show. Unfortunately, instead of giving the opportunity to anyone who has talent and capability to be promoted as an idol. I find some weaknesses in this program.

Sometimes, the winner is not guaranteed to have the quality of a good singer because the winner is merely determined by pubic voting by phone and SMS. Most of these voters do not consider the jury’s comments on the contestant’s performance because they would prefer focusing on the contestant’s physical appearance and personality rather than his/her singing quality.

As a consequence, after the competition is over, only a few of the winners get the chance to be professional singers. Why is it so? Because they don’t have great skills to be professional singers. Furthermore, most of them only have little experience in the show business, while being professional singers need a long process and time.

My suggestion is that “Indonesian Idol” should not determine the winner based on the contestant’s popularity. The singing quality of each contestant should be the first priority.

Yours truly,

Pinky Baboe- Semarang

The Pros and Cons Of Video Games

Nowadays, the video games industry is developing rapidly. It becomes a multi-billion dollar industry. Video games have become an important part not only in the children’s lives but also the adults’. Nevertheless, there is an argument about whether video games bring good or bad influences on children.

People who have a pro argument claim that video games give a lot of benefits? Playing video games is a good way to kill children’s boredom. It can refresh the children’s mind after a tiring school day. Moreover, they also argue that video games can trigger children to be more creative because the games provide challenging ways to win. In other words, they believe that the video games can actually sharpen a human’s brain.

Conversely, some people believe that video games make children lazy. They argue that playing video games is addictive. As a consequence, most of the children prefer playing video games to studying. These children find it hard to concentrate on their studies because they always think about how to spend more time playing video games. In fact, there are also some children who skip their extracurricular lessons, just because they want to play video games. In addition, most of the video games often expose too much violence. Two years ago in the USA, for example, a student shot his teacher and some of his friends. Newspapers said that the boy was deeply influenced by the actions in the video games.

It is obvious that video games have more disadvantages than advantages. Therefore, parents should be very careful in selecting the appropriate games for their children.

a. Children like playing video games

b. Adults like playing video games

c. The writer takes sides towards the pros opinion

The Ost (Original Soundtrack) of Brownies

Bisa Saja was chosen as the first single of the album and the theme song of Brownies because the lyrics reflect the story in the movie. Budjana of GIGI demonstrates his skill in playing an acoustic guitar in Cinta Terakhir. Three other brand new songs, Dilemma, Jangan Bilang Pacarku, and Semua Orang Berhak Mendapat Rasa Bahagia, give supporting nuances to the flow of the movie. GIGI composed them by imagining how the scenes would look like based on the screenplay.

When Hanung Bramantyo (the director) and Dewa Budjana of GIGI chatted, Budjana expressed his interest in making a soundtrack album. Then, he recommended a few GIGI songs, which the producer accepted because of the chemistry they created with the movie.

Since GIGI could provide a variety of colors to add all kinds of musical nuances to enrich the movie, the producers deemed it unnecessary to find other musicians to complete the original soundtrack of Brownies.

Armand Maulana (vocalist), I Gede Dewa Budjana (guitarist), Thomas Ramadhan (bass player), and Gusti Erhandy (drums-stand-in player for Budhi Haryono) put a lot of effort into this album. As a result, they've created a perfect blend of movies and songs that make Brownies tastier.

It’s always fun to have a piece of brownies in your mouth but having it on your stereo is more entertaining. No movie is perfect without a musical score and Ost. of Brownies has proved it excellently.
