Borobudur

Borobudur is a Hindhu-Buddhist temple built in the 9th century under the Syailendra dynasty of Java. It is located near Magelang, on the island of Java, Indonesia.

Abandoned in the 1 Ith century and partially excavated by archaeologists in the early 20th century, Borobudur temple is well-known all over the world.

Influenced by the Gupta architecture of India, the temple is constructed on a hill of 46 m (150 ft) high and consists of eight-step like stone terraces, one on top of the other.

The first five terraces are square and surrounded by walls adorned with Buddhist sculpture in bas-relief; the upper three are circular, each with a circle of bell-shaped stupas (Buddhist shrines).

The entire edifice is crowned by a large Stupa at the center of the top circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passages and stairways.

The design of Borobudur, a temple-mountain, symbolizing the structure of the universe, is similar to the temples built at Angkor, Cambodia.

The Borobudur Temple, rededicated as an Indonesian national monument in 1983, is a valuable treasure for Indonesian people.

CABBAGE

A cabbage belongs to vegetable. The word cabbage derives from the French word caboche, a colloquial term for "head". The cabbage family is wide and varied such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and kale.

The cabbage itself comes in many forms. The shapes can be flat, conical or round. The heads are compact or loose. The leaves are curly or plain.

In the United States, the most widely used cabbage comes in compact heads of waxy, tightly wrapped leaves that range in color from almost white to green to red.

Savoy cabbage and Chinese cabbage are considered culinary superior but are less readily available.

Please All and You Will Please None

A man and his son were once going with their donkey to a market. As they were walking along, a countryman passed them and said, "You fool! What is a donkey for but to ride upon?"

So, the man put the boy on the donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said, "See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides."

So the man had his boy get off, and got on himself. But they hadn't gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other, "Shame on that lazy lout to make his poor little son trudge along."

The man didn't know what to do, but at last he took his boy up before him on the donkey. By this time, they had come to the town and the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The men said, "Aren't you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor donkey of yours, you and your hulking son?"

The man and boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the donkey's feet to it, and raised the pole and the donkey to their shoulders. They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to a bridge, when the donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the boy to drip his end of the pole. In the struggle the donkey fell over the bridge, and so did the man and the boy.

Finally an old man who had followed them said, "That will teach you. Please all and you will please none."

Libraries

I personally believe that libraries are among humanity's most important institutions for several reasons.

Firstly, most of humanity's collective knowledge is stored in libraries. Secondly libraries protect and preserve this knowledge. They also classify or group the materials into logical and easily available divisions.

Furthermore, libraries make the materials available to everyone and even provide librarians to help us find what we need.

Finally, libraries are our link to the past and our gift to the future.

From the facts above, I conclude that libraries are important institutions for humanity.
