Last week my family and I decided to visit Pantai Panjang. We went there by our MPV. My father drove for eighties kilometers before we finally neared the beach. The temperature started to drop and the road began to twist and turn. The view was simply breathtaking. I noticed the deep ravines and cautioned my father to drive slowly as we ascended the steep road. There were a few other cars in front of us and some behind us. ‘Look at that red car! Goodness, it is going at too fast a speed,’ analyzed my father.
Seconds later, there was a loud crash. We could guess what happened. All other vehicles came to an abrupt stop as the spectacle of a huge lorry, which had been descending, ploughing into the red car. In horror, we watched the lorry hang on the edge of a precipice as the red car was thrown against the slope of a hill on the other side.
Immediately, our father called out to some people to alert the police and tried to put out the burn car. A fat man had cleverly started to warn other vehicles which were descending to slow down and stop. My father and a few others had gone to inspect the accident scene. Thankfully both of driver and the passengers were not injured. The occupants of the red car had already gotten out of their smashed and burnt vehicles. They were sitting by the roadside in a state of shock. My mother and I went to comfort them. We gave them a little water to drink.
We got a lesson from that experience. We should be careful while riding our vehicles, especially on twisting and ascending mountain road

2. Why did the writer’s father ride the car slowly?
A. Because they were trapped in a traffic jam.
B.  Because they ascended the sleep road.
C.  Because there was an accident.
D.  Because many drivers drove very fast.
E.   Because there were many cars in front of and behind them

3. “… came to an abrupt stop as the spectacle of …” (paragraph 2). The underline word has a similar meaning to ….
A.  slow
B.  fast
C.  sudden
D.  careful
E.   careless

A big secret that cell phone companies have been keeping from the world is that a cell phone is nothing more than a radio. It is a complex radio, but still a radio. In order to really understand the way a cell phone works, we must discuss some of the cell phones history for just a moment.
The technology behind cells have changed dramatically over the yeras, just as cell phones have, but now most standard cells are about 10 square miles large. They are usually in the shape of hexagon. Nowadays, every individual cell has its own base station, rather than only one for an entire city. And now cell phones are made to be low-power transmitters, with much lower wattage than in past decades. This means that the same frequency can be used in the same city, at the same time, but in different cells.
How a cell phone carrier controls the frequency like an ice cube tray. The cell phone transmitting towers don’t spill their transmissions that far out of their own cells. They may spill slightly into the most adjacent cells, but not into cells more than one cell away. Usually each separate carrier has their own control office in each separate carrier has their own control office in each major urban area called the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO). This is where they control their respective towers. This office also connects all of the cell phone calls to the land-line phones.
Each modern cell phone has special codes programmed into it. The most important code is the system identification code or the SID. It’s five digit code which the FCC allocates to each different cell phone carrier. When a cell phone is turned on, whether it’s making a cell or not, it’s picking up the SID that is being transmitted from the closest cell-phone tower. The phone’s personal carrier is also transmitting its SID to the phone on specific channels that the phone programmed to listen for.

19. From the text, we can conclude that ....
A. the development of cell phone technology is improving

D.  how cell phone works can’t be explained by scientists
E.   SID makes communication by cell phones more difficult

A. broadcasting
B.  receiving
C. transferring
D.  communicating
E.   sending

Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to built up new cells and replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substances that can be carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion.
The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. Saliva contains digestive juice which moisten the food, so it can be swallowed easily.
From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into the stomach. Here, the food is mixed with the juices secreted by the cells in the stomach for several hours. Then the food enters the small intestine. All the time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the food onwards.

Of what you are
There is an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

(Chorus)
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

For you to hold you can find love

Once upon a time, there was a woman who had been lost in the desert for three whole days without water. Just as she was about to collapse, she saw what appeared to be a lake just a few hundred yards in front of her. “Could it be? Or is it just a mirage?” she thought to herself.
With the last bit of strength she could muster, she staggered toward the lake. Quickly she learned that her prayers had been answered. It was no mirage---it was indeed a large, spring-fed lake full of fresh water---more fresh water than she could ever drink in her lifetime. Yet, while she was literally dying of thirst, she couldn’t bring himself to drink the water. She simply stood by the water’s edge and stared down at it.
There was a passerby riding on a camel from a nearby desert town who was watching the woman’s bizarre behaviour. He got off his camel, walked up to the thirsty woman, and asked, “Why don’t you have a drink, Ma’am?”
She looked up at the man with an exhausted, distraught expression accros her face and tears welling up in her eyes. “I am dying of thirst,” she said., “but there is way too much water here in the lake to drink. No matter what I do, i can’t possibly finish at all.”
The passerby smilled, bent down, scooped some water up with his hands, lifted it to the woman’s mouth and said, “Ma’am, your opportunity right now, and as you move forward throughout the rest of your life, is to understand that you don’t have to drink the whole lake to quench your thirst. You can simply take one sip. Just one small sip... and then another if you choose. Focus only on the mouthful in front of you, and all your anxiety, fear, and overwhelm about the rest will gradually fade.”

Government should not raise fuel price to solve the problem of economic issues. People were affected severely with the high fuel price like last year. Obviously they cut their spending. As an example, they had to buy lower quality of rice or palm oil. There were also fewer buyers of secondary commodities like flour, or canned meat or fish.

Furthermore, the condition of low income family will become even worse because their expenses will increase while their salaries will not. Many companies will have to trim the number of employees because they are incapable of managing, buying or selling price, standard wages and personal affairs.

Finally, government should not raise fuel price to overcome economic problem but the solution should be sought by tapping into the nation’s own potential and utilizing it to enhance productivity to its maximum.
